Robert J. McGrogan
September 18, 1929 ~ August 19, 2021 (age 91)
Robert J. McGrogan, 91, of Indianapolis, IN (formerly of South Bend, IN) passed away on Thursday, August 19, 2021. He was born on September 18, 1929 to the late Maurice J. McGrogan, Sr. and Kathryn (Miller) McGrogan in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong resident, before moving to Indianapolis, IN in 2015. Along with his parents; he was preceded in death by a son, James R. McGrogan; a brother, Maurice J. “John” McGrogan; and a step-daughter, Patty Szymanski. Robert retired in 1994 from Weil-McLain Corporation in Michigan City, IN, where he worked as an Engineer for 23 years. Prior to that, he worked as an Engineer at the Bendix Missile Plant in Mishawaka, IN for seven years and the Robertshaw Corporation in Goshen, IN for six years.In October 1955, Robert married Marion Kasuba and they had three sons, James, Robert, and Thomas. Marion passed away on October 19, 1984. He later married Annie Dabros on February 14, 1986. She passed away on October 8, 2006. He then married Sherri Badman on April 26, 2015 and moved to Indianapolis, IN. She passed away on June 14, 2021. Robert is survived by two sons, Robert M. McGrogan of South Bend, IN; Thomas P. (Heather) McGrogan of Fort Wayne, IN; daughter-in-law, Tina Caparell of South Bend, IN; step-daughter, Jackie Hutts of South Bend, IN; four grandchildren, James R., Victoria, Adam, and Austin McGrogan; and three step granddaughters, Elise Hutts; and Courtney & Lauren Szymanski. Robert was a former member of Holy Family Parish in South Bend, IN. He was a Korean War Veteran, where he served in the U.S. Airforce from 1951- 1954. He was proud of his family and loved spending time with them. A rosary will be prayed at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 24, 2021, followed by visitation from 4:30 - 7:00 p.m. at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at Holy Family Catholic Church, where friends and family may visit one hour prior to the Funeral Mass. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger, IN, where Military Honors will take place.
