ELKHART - Jerome Stajkowski, 80, of Elkhart, died on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at the Elkhart Hospice House with his family at his side. Mr. Stajkowski was born on February 12, 1935 in South Bend, Indiana to the late Stanley and Stella (Lechtanski) Stajkowski. On July 31, 1954 at St. Stephen's Catholic Church he married Shirley (Meszaros) Stajkowski, she survives in Elkhart. He obtained his Bachelors and Master's Degree from Indiana University and worked for the Elkhart Community Schools as an elementary school teacher and an elementary school principal for Lincoln and Bristol Schools retiring in 1995 after many years of dedicated service. Jerome was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Elkhart, Indiana Retired Teachers Association and Elkhart Retired Teachers Association. He loved spending time with his family; he also loved the Chicago Cubs, Notre Dame and IU. He enjoyed playing golf, stamp collecting, reading, gardening and travel. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; one daughter and son in law; Debra and John Groves of Indianapolis, two sons and two daughters in law; James and Donna Stajkowski of Middlebury and Michael and Suzanne Stajkowski of Fishers, Indiana. Six grandchildren; Jennifer (Ryan) Preczewski, Scott (Chelsea) Groves, Ben Stajkowski, Kristine (Craig) Pussehl, Joseph Stajkowski and Delcie Stajkowski; Six great grandchildren; Shawn and Christopher Preczewski; Emma, Owen, Lilah and Quinn Pussehl. Also surviving are two sisters; Dorothy Weesner and Angela Stajkowski. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Ben Stajkowski and Raymond Stajkowski and one sister; Irene Stajkowski. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at 10:30 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Father Jason Freiburger will officiate the mass. Entombment will follow at Rice Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, January 1, 2016 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at the Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home in Elkhart. The family suggests memorials be directed to Center for Hospice Care - Elkhart or Elkhart Education Foundation.
