Alois C. DeVliegher

SOUTH BEND - Alois C. DeVliegher, 91, of Mishawaka, died at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, March 29, 2013, at the Morningcrest Nursing and Memory Care Center in South Bend. Alois was born March 3, 1922, in Mishawaka, to the late Cyril and Zulma (Catrie) DeVliegher. Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Herman and the Rev. Joseph DeVliegher. On January 18, 1947, in Mishawaka, Alois married Vivian Borders. She survives along with two daughters, Patricia (Thomas) Hurley of Mishawaka and Mary (Gary) McGowan of Coatsville, IN; three sons, Michael (Patricia) DeVliegher of Indianapolis, David (Fran) DeVliegher of South Bend and Stephen (Elizabeth Payne) DeVliegher of Mishawaka. Also surviving are ten grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren, and one brother, Cyril (Irene) DeVliegher of Mishawaka. A lifelong resident of Mishawaka, Alois worked for 42 years at Dodge Manufacturing, retiring in 1983. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during WW II where he fought in Rhineland and Central Europe. He was a member of St. Bavo Catholic Church, the B-K Club, VFW Post 360, American Legion Post 161 and the Eagles FOE 435. Visitation for Alois will be held on Wednesday, April 3rd, from 6-8 at the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th St., Mishawaka. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:30 a.m., also at the funeral home, with the Rev. Barry England officiating. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
