Phyllis D. Strychalski, 87, of South Bend, IN, passed away on her 87th birthday at 10:10 pm in Healthwin Specialized Care Facility.Phyllis was born on February 23, 1925 in South Bend to Casimer and Pearl (Marszalkowski) Sroda, and was a lifelong resident. She retired from the South Bend Tribune, where she was employed for 10 years. On September 27, 1947, in Holy Cross Church, as Phyllis D. Sroda, she married Leonard J. Strychalski, who preceded her in death on April 21, 2000. Survivors include her daughter, Suzie Gadacz of Mishawaka, IN; three sons, Thomas (Elaine) Strychalski, Mickey (Pat) Strychalski, and Dave (Tena) Strychalski all of South Bend, IN; eight grandchildren, Kristin (Ben) Hendricks of Boston, MA, and Lindsay (Tom) Coughlin, Jaime (Derek) Leyba, Jason (Jessica Bealer) Strychalski, Joshua Strychalski, Courtney Strychalski, Tim Strychalski, and Suzie Strychalski all of South Bend, IN; one great-grandson, Austin Michael Leyba; and her twin sister, Pat (Ted) Strychalski of South Bend, IN.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 am Tuesday February 28, 2012, in St. Stanislaus B.M. Catholic Church, South Bend. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 until 8 p.m. Monday February 27, 2012, in Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a parish rosary will be prayed at 4:00 p.m. Phyllis was a member of St. Stanislaus Parish. She enjoyed artwork, music, and drawing. She was a covered bridge collector. She was a sports fan and enjoyed the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, and Notre Dame. Phyllis loved to spend time with her family. Memorial contributions may be made to Healthwin Specialized Care Facility.
