SOUTH BEND - Mary M. Kowalski, 87, passed away on Friday, September 11, 2009 at 1:45 am in her home. Mary was born on June 30, 1922 in South Bend to the late Louis and Leokadja (Kiemnec) Widawski. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Irene Wlodarek and her brother, Walter Widawski. On June 14, 1947 she married Walter Kowalski, he survives along with their three children, Connie (William) Harmon of Granger, Mary Jo (Dirk) Young of South Bend, and Paul (Virginia) Kowalski of South Bend; seven grandchildren, Ross, Roger, Daniel, Matthew, Chelsea, Cassie, and Jamie; and by her sister, Henrietta Masters of Mishawaka. She was a parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena Parish at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. Family and friends may gather from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Monday, September 14, 2009 in St. Catherine of Siena Parish at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 63568 US 31 South, South Bend, IN 46614 where a Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 1827 E Ireland Road is assisting the family. The family has requested in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Ct., South Bend, IN 46637 or to St. Catherine of Siena Parish at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 63568 US 31 South, South Bend, IN 46614.
