Alfred Lavon Perkins, 83, of South Bend, IN passed away at 12:30 a.m. Sunday, October 21, 2012 in the Sanctuary at St. Paul. He was born on November 5, 1928 in Mishawaka, IN to the late Paul and Margaret (Harrington) Perkins. On February 5, 1971 in South Bend, IN he married Dolores T. (Grzegorek) Perkins, who survives. Mr. Perkins is also survived by two daughters, Trudy (Ken) Sandora of Lakeland, FL and Margaret Perkins of New Braunfels, TX; two sons, Daniel (Ola) Perkins of Lakeland, FL and Patrick Perkins of MI; stepdaughter, Lynda (John) Tompkins of South Bend, IN and step son, August Kovach of Houston, TX; seventeen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Mr. Perkins served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He retired as an underground lineman from Indiana Michigan Electric Company in 1988 after thirty-three years of service. He enjoyed bowling, reading and listening to music. He loved to garden and feed his birds. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Southlawn United Methodist Church, 60756 U.S. 31 S. South Bend, IN. Military graveside services and burial will follow in Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend and one hour prior to the services in church.In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Alfred L. Perkins may be offered to Alzheimer's Services, 922 E.
