EDWARDSBURG - Barbara M. (Smolka) Potter, 71, of Edwardsburg, MI passed away peacefully on December 10, 2015 with her husband by her side. She was born on March 25, 1944 to Harry Joseph & Edith Mary Smolka. She graduated from Elkhart High School in 1963 and Elkhart Beauty College in 1964 where she pursued her passion for being a hairstylist. She was employed at AEC for 18 plus years were she built many friendships. She retired from KIK Custom Products as engineering secretary in 2009. She was an active member and secretary of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Elkhart, IN and was much loved by her church family. She is survived by her high school sweetheart and husband of 26 years, William C. Potter, her 3 children from a previous marriage: Cheryl (Michael) Weldon of McCordsville, IN, David (Jennifer) Posthauer of Elkhart, IN, Susan Posthauer of Bristol, IN, a step-son, Paul (Christine) Potter of Dowagiac, MI, step-daughter, Lori Phillips of Carmel, IN, step-son, Vincent Posthauer Jr., of St. Albans, WV, her sister, Tootie Teeter of Noblesville, IN, a step-sister, Carol Howard of Warr Acres, OK, 11 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and one on the way, and her 3 kitty cats Muffin, Mikey and Spanky. She was preceded in death by both parents and her step-father, George Slocum, and step-son Greg Posthauer. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday December 20, 2015 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Elkhart, IN. Visitation will be from 12 pm to 2 pm with a service to follow. Memorial contributions in Barbara's memory may be made to Elkhart Adventist Christian School, 3601 E. Bristol St. Elkhart, IN 46514. Elkhart Cremation Services is entrusted with her arrangements.
