SOUTH BEND - Hilary J. Staszewski, 92, of South Bend, Indiana passed away at 5:25 p.m. Saturday, November 26, 2016, in the Sanctuary at St. Paul's. Hilary was born on December 1, 1923 in South Bend to Andrew and Helen (Kazmierzak) Staszewski and was a lifelong resident. He retired on February 5, 1986 from the South Bend Fire Department after 28 years of service. On September 8, 1951 in St. Stanislaus Church, he married Selma B. Nowacki, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Patricia Olson of South Bend, Indiana, Lois (Jeff) Bauer of South Bend, Indiana, and Joyce (Thad) Wright of Bristol, Indiana; two sons, Thomas Staszewski and Robert (Susan) Staszewski both of South Bend, Indiana; nine grandchildren, Leslie (Aaron) Hoeppner, Lindsey (James) Foley, Nicholas Bauer, Adam Staszewski, Christopher Staszewski, Michael (Amanda) Tyburski, Brett (Katie) Tyburski, Katie Wright and Eli Wright; six great-grandchildren, Avery Hoeppner, Alyssa Hoeppner, Drake Tyburski, Erik Tyburski, Max Bassett, and Owen Tyburski; and two sisters-in-law, Sally and Eleanor Staszewski. Hilary was preceded in death by two sisters, Marge Zielinski and Genevieve Hasten; and two brothers, Chester and Edwin Staszewski. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 2, 2016 in the Sanctuary at St. Paul's Chapel. Military Services will be conducted by members of United States Army and the American Legion Post #357 immediately following the Mass. Burial will take place at a later date in Marion National Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Friday in the Sanctuary at St. Paul's. Hilary was a member of St. John the Baptist Parish. He was a W.W.II Army Veteran. Hilary was a member of the American Legion Pulaski Post #357 and the Breezer's. He enjoyed Bluegill fishing at Saugany Lake in Rolling Prairie, playing Euchre, and riding roller coasters with his kids and grandkids. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Sanctuary at St. Pauls' Assisted Living and The Inn for their loving care.
