NORTH LIBERTY - Russell E. “Abe” Bulla, 96, of North Liberty, IN, passed away at 8:10 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at his home. He was born on September 7, 1919, in North Liberty, IN, to the late Earl and Edna (Nelson) Bulla. In 1946, he was united in marriage to Marian Craft, who preceded him in death in 1981. He married Bertha Sousley in Las Vegas, NV; she preceded him in death on May 3, 2001. Mr. Bulla is survived by his stepson, Dana (Gloria) Sousley, Sr. of Buchanan, MI; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and sister, Nancy (Jerry) Knowlton of North Liberty; niece, Barbara Blair of Phoenix, AZ, and nephew, Duff Hevel of North Liberty, IN; and a host of other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Ruth Martin, Norma Hill, Iva Farrell, Neva “Spin” Hevel and Dorothy Zombik; and brother, Lawrence Bulla.Mr. Bulla was a lifelong resident. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during World War II in the tank battalion division. He retired in 1981 as a foreman at Sibley Machine and Foundry after forty-one years of service. Mr. Bulla was a charter member of V.F.W. where he served as commander. He was a volunteer fireman for twenty-five years, serving as the fire chief for a year. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Monday, March 28, 2016, at Palmer Funeral Home, 202 N. Main St., North Liberty, IN. Military graveside services and burial will follow at Eastlawn Cemetery, North Liberty. Friends may visit with the family 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.Contributions in memory of Russell E. Bulla may be offered to the V.F.W. National Home for Children, 3573 S.
