SOUTH BEND, IN - “You will leave love and memories, plus a piece of you to all the people you touched. The memories you created out of selfless acts, the lessons, the wisdom, the talents and traits you left to others was your gift to them. So, you will never really be gone.” Nancy Lee Dembinski has reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Nicholas S. Dembinski (JaJa, 1935-2010). They lived in the family home on Miami Street for 60 years until it became too much to keep. The home carried generations of amazing family memories. Holidays were always a major event taking weeks in planning. She helped with the family businesses for years, Miami Bakery and Miami Liquor Store. In her later years she worked for So-Fro Fabrics at Scottsdale Mall, and then Meijer's 331 the day it opened, in the toy department until she retired in 2009. In her younger years she was a Cub Scout, Webelo's and Blue Bird Leader all in the same week, right along with being a Block Parent. For many years, summers were spent living on a boat in New Buffalo, MI (that was sort of a love/hate relationship) but it was where she created some everlasting friends. She also enjoyed sewing, cooking, crafts, family photos, and animals. Nancy always was thinking of others, having her children take small presents to the teachers, and even the crossing guard for holidays. She even had a special drawer in the bedroom with random gifts just in case there was that last-minute birthday party. Nancy was raised in New Carlisle, IN and was very proud of her family history of being farmers, as well as her grandfather Beehler, who owned a coal and ice company in Mishawaka. If anyone wanted to know a name or date in the family history, she was the one to ask. Preceding her in death are her parents, Leon Bernard Kelley (1913-1920) and Mary Louise Kelley (1915-2003); her sister, Kathleen Sue Bate (1945-2017); and infant sister, Peggy Kelley (1937). Surviving are her sons, Kelly (Karen) Dembinski and Nicholas (Susan) Dembinski; daughters, Vickie Dembinski and Tracy (Brad) Moore; sister, Patricia (Michael) Baginski of Elkhart; 10 grandchildren, Jan Michael (Victoria) Bennett, Christopher (Jennifer) Petzke, Michael (Ashley) Dembinski, Renee (Nicholas) Fuller, Nicole (Eric) Dykstra, Matthew Dembinski, Zack Dembinski, Brooke Callahan, Dustin Dembinski, and Brandi Moore; and 5 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the local Hospice or Meals on Wheels. A Celebration of Life with will be held at a later date. Published in South Bend Tribune on Oct. 27, 2018
