SOUTH BEND - Frank A Curly Kurlowicz, 94, passed away on Wednesday December 3, 2008 at the Sanctuary at St. Paul's. The South Bend native was born May 10, 1914 and was a lifelong resident. Mr. Kurlowicz served in the CCC during WWII, was a member of St. Matthew Cathedral and the Calvert Rod & Gun Club. Remembered as 'a true gentleman' by all, he was an avid fisherman and enjoyed playing cards. He retired from Sibley Machine & Foundry Corp. and then worked for the South Bend Parks Dept. for 10 more years. Frank is survived by his son, Paul (Phyllis) Kurlowicz of Portage, MI; grandchildren, Dana (Scott) Evans of Portage, MI, Patrick Huxhold of Bristol and Justin Huxhold of Elkhart; great-grandchildren, Courtney Evans, Andrew Huxhold and Alex Huxhold; sisters, Ann Hornyak of South Bend, Evelyn Hunt of Colorado and Jenny Glunt of South Bend; and his brother, Edward (Faye) Korlowicz of South Bend. Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Ann (Meszaros) Kurlowicz in 1989; daughter, Susan Huxhold in 2002; and also by his brother, Ronald Kurlowicz and sisters, Phyllis Reback, Estelle Voynovich, Bernice Cygirt and Lottie Kippes. A Mass of Christian Resurrection will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at the Memorial Chapel in the Sanctuary at St. Paul's Retirement Community, 3602 S. Ironwood Dr. celebrated by Rev. Michael J. Heppen, C.S.C. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10 AM in the Chapel. Private burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family's preferred memorial is the Sanctuary at St. Paul's Healthcare. Funeral arrangements are through Chapel Hill Funeral Home.
