"Madeline (Humphrey) Zabik
Dec 12, 1916 - Oct 29, 2003
Madeline Zabik, 86, of South Bend, Ind., passed away at 11:40 a.m. on Wednesday October 29. She was born on December 12, 1916, to Ernest and Lena Humphrey, who preceded her in death. On Dec 31, 1934, she married Thaddeus John Zabik, who passed away in April 1994. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin and Russell Humphrey: and by three sisters, Lelia Henry, Mary Baumgartner and May Humphrey. Madeline is survived by four daughters, Pat Zabik of South Bend, Jan (Dennis) Maciejewski of South Bend, Karen (J. Michael) Straka of Wisconsin, and Terri (Larry_ VanOverberghe of South Bend; and 15 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.Aside from her love for flowers, gardening, fishing, canoeing, walks in the woods, sitting down on winters day working puzzles, crocheting, having an occasional treat at the Dairy Queen, or an occasional Bloody Mary, or 2 or 3, THERE WAS NOTHING MORE PRECIOUS AND HELD A HIGHER VALUE THAN HER FAMILY. Family was the beginning and the end. From hosting all the major holiday get-togethers, where grandchildren and great-grandchildren were spoiled beyond recognition, to Sunday hot dog roasts by the fire; Family was (is) everything. Although her worldly body was taken from us this day, her love and spirit is carried on in all of her family, and her legacy of love is firmly planted and will carry on forever. God bless you Mom, Grandma; give Grandpa a kiss for us. You will be missed and never forgotten; it's the way you would want it. Visitation will be on Sunday, November 2, from 2 to 8 p.m. in the ST JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road. A Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.n. Funeral services will be on Monday, November 3 at 1 p.m. in Holy Family Church. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery, South Bend.Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation."
