ELKHART - Rose Marie Polonka, 83, formerly of South Bend passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2014 in her residence surrounded by her family. Rose was born December 13, 1931 in South Bend to the late Walter and Pearl (Bonczynski) Wroblewski. On May 20, 1950 Rose married her high school sweet heart, Fred Polonka he preceded her in death on September 1, 2003. Rose is also preceded in death by her sisters, Delphine Arendt and Elaine Jurgonski and many nieces and nephews. Survivors of Rose include her daughter, Deborah (Robert) Meyer of Elkhart; two grandsons; Matthew (Marissa) Meyer and Michael (Anna) Meyer, a great- grandson, Dylan Cole Meyer; and her sister, Georgian Vargo. Rose retired in 1992 from Sears after 31 years. She was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church. Rose was member of the PNA Club #83. She was very creative person who enjoyed cross stitching and painting. Rose enjoyed spending time with her family. Rose was especially active in her grandchildren and great grandson's lives. Visitation for Rose will be 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Monday, December 29, 2014 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. where a Rosary will be prayed at 4:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Tuesday, December 30, 2014 in Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St Joseph Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice of Elkhart County 22579 Old US 20 East Elkhart, IN 46514, Holy Family Catholic Church, 56405 Mayflower Rd., South Bend, Indiana 46619, or Catholic Charities of South Bend, 1817 Miami Street, South Bend, IN 46613. The family would like to express a "Thank You" to Hospice of Elkhart County especially her aide, Abbie, nurse Jeanette, visiting nurse, Cindy who was with Rose during her final minutes, On call nurse, M.J. and social worker, Natalie and Alick's Home Health Care.
