MISHAWAKA - Athelene L. "Katie" Stayton, 86, of Mishawaka, passed away at 10:20 a.m. Sunday, April 18, 2010, in her home surrounded by family. Katie was born on January 26, 1924, in LaPaz, IN, to the late Gabriel and Mamie (Annis) Neddo. On June 14, 1942, she married H. Lauren Stayton, who passed away on October 2, 2002. She was also preceded in death by brother, Francis Neddo, and sister, Lydia Alexander. She is survived by four children, Kay (Bruce) Dixon of North Liberty, Dennis (Mary) Stayton of Osceola, Rev. D. Mark (Jenny) Stayton of Kingsport, TN, and David (Diane) Stayton of Ft. Wayne, IN; 11 grandchildren, Tim, Todd, Troy (Brenda) Dixon, Benjamin, Jeremy Stayton, Brian (Erin), Tania (Nathan) Hand, Deanna Stayton, Laren (Lori), Jonathan and Katelyn Stayton; and by 14 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Karon (Mike) Burns of Mishawaka; four brothers, Darwin (June) Neddo of Charleston, WV, James (Gloria) Neddo of South Bend, Larry Neddo of Monument, CO, and Vern (Kathleen) Neddeau of Wasilla, AK; and a sister- in-law, Hazel Neddo of Sale Creek, TN. Katie was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church, Mishawaka, as well as a member of V.F.W. Post 360 Ladies Auxiliary. Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 pm, Wednesday, April 21, 2010, in the Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 22, 2010, in First Baptist Church, 724 North Main Street, Mishawaka, with one hour of visitation prior to the service. Rev. David Miller will officiate. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Memorial donations may be sent to First Baptist Church or to the Center for Hospice & Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Ct., South Bend, IN 46628.
