Ronald D. Helenburg, 52, of Park South Boulevard, South Bend, Ind., died following an illness at 10 p.m. on Thursday, April 13, in Memorial Hospital. Mr. Helenburg was born on Nov. 15, 1947 in South Bend, to Marion (Banacka) and William C. Helenburg, Jr., and was a lifetime area resident. He was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother, William C. "Butch" Helenburg, Jr. On April 13, 1968, in South Bend, he married Linda K. Ewald, who survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Christine (John) Duvall of Mishawaka, Ind.; two grandchildren, Justin and Jessica Duvall; and by a brother, Michael L. Helenburg of Mishawaka. Ron retired on April 2, 2000 from Lucent Technologies after 32 years of service. He was a member of Communication Workers of America, and the VFW Post 624 in Roseland, Ind. Mr. Helenburg served in the Army during the Vietnam War. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 18, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 S. Mill Street, Mishawaka, with Rev. Robert Yast officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, April 17, in the Welsheimer Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend, where a Rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
