Michael Lee Helenburg, 72, of Mishawaka, passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2022. Michael was born in South Bend, IN on October 16, 1950, to the late William and Marian (Banacka) Helenburg. He is survived by his wife, Denise (Johnson) Helenburg; 2 children, Stephanie Helenburg and Clayton Helenburg; 2 grandchildren, Elliana Katz and Caedon Ford; sister-in-law, Linda Helenburg; and bonus family, April (Josh Smith) Twohey and their kids, Hunter and Aria Smith; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. He is preceded in death by his brothers, William “Butch” Helenburg and Ronald Helenburg. Michael proudly served on the Mishawaka Fire Department for 28 years until his retirement. He enjoyed going to the casino. Most of all, he loved being with his kids and grandkids. He loved to watch his grandson play baseball, his granddaughter dance and he especially loved to take them fishing. The family will receive friends from 4 pm-7 pm on Friday, November 4, 2022, at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka, IN 46544. A funeral service will begin at 7 pm with Reverend Bob Vale officiating. Contributions can be made in Michael’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
