Patricia D. Guzzi, 84 years old, passed away at 12:34 p.m. on Friday, August 12, 2022 in Brownsburg, IN. She was preceded in death by her son, Jeffery, who died six hours prior. Patricia and Jeffrey were both under hospice care. Patricia was born on July 23, 1938 in Chicago, IL to the late Frank and Mary (Terris) Drake. She has lived in South Bend since 1972, moving from Downers Grove, IL. On September 28, 1957 in Cicero, IL, Patricia and Joseph R. Guzzi were united in marriage. Joseph preceded her in death on December 10, 2014, after 57 years of marriage. Patricia is survived by her sons, Joseph (Julie) Guzzi of Mishawaka, and John (Deanna) Guzzi of Pittsburg, PA; daughter-in-law, Laura Guzzi of Brownsburg, IN; daughter, Jennifer (Todd) Barker of Granger, IN; ten grandchildren, Joseph and Jacob Guzzi, Jordan and Jackson Guzzi, Rachel Guzzi, Caroline (Matthew) Thompson, and Brett, Katherine, Luke, and Sarah Barker; and one great grandson, Joseph Guzzi. Patricia is also survived by her three sisters, Frances Saley, Barbara Tichacek, and Donn Huth, all from Illinois; her brother, Charles Drake of Illinois; her sister-in-law, Carol Grealish of Virginia; and had many nieces, nephews, and extended family. She attended St. Jarlotte’s from 1st grade to 8th grade. Followed by St. Patrick’s High School from 9th to 12th grade where she was actively involved in extracurricular activities. After having four children she furthered her education at Indiana University of South Bend. She was primarily a homemaker, but enjoyed working part time at Notre Dame, and South Bend Orthopedics for Dr. B. Patricia dedicated a lot of her time volunteering at DeBartolo Center for the Performing Arts as an usher and the food pantry at Little Flower Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing golf since age 18, being involved in a local women's league at Notre Dame’s Warren Golf Course. She spent many hours in the garden, and was always told she could take a stem and turn it into a flourishing plant. She loved to travel, and was in a travel group where she was able to explore over 38 countries. She also enjoyed playing in a bridge club, doing puzzles, sewing and spending time with her family and friends. Patricia spent most of her time with her grand kids, and her great grandson. She was an avid sports fan, and you could often catch her recording a game and watching it the next day so she could avoid commercials. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at St. Thérèse, Little Flower Catholic Church, 54191 Ironwood Road, South Bend. Graveside services and burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family two hours prior to Mass at the church.
