SOUTH BEND - Jessie L. (Krucina) Barta was born Chestswava Czerkas on Nov. 9, 1923, to Cyprian and Mary Czerkas in the Village of West Hammond, IL (Calumet City). She attended St. Andrew's in Calumet City and graduated from Thornton Fractional High School with honors. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Joseph Krucina and John Barta, and her brother, Gene Curtis. She is survived by sons, Joseph (Susan) and Gary (Marilyn) Krucina; stepsons, Rob (Lori) and Bob (Debbie) Barta; grandchildren, Michael (Amy) and Benjamin Krucina, Brett Barta (Kristin), Krista Hopkins (Chris), Stacey Barta, Jimmy Barta, Jennifer Sandl (Steve), Megan Birosztko and Kelsey Barta; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Mitzi, Joan and June; and many beloved nephews and nieces. Jessie was strong in her faith and will always be remembered for her loving generosity and friendship. She will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Riley Children's Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Central time Wednesday, November 12, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Calumet City, IL. Inurnment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, IL. Hahn Funeral Home, Mishawaka, has been entrusted with handling the final arrangements.
