SOUTH BEND - Florence W. Zielewski, 87, formerly of Phillipa St., South Bend passed away on February 21, 2011 in Sanctuary of St. Paul of natural causes. Florence was born on May 3, 1923 to Walter and Stella (Switalski) Nowacki. She attended Central High School. On June 14, 1947 she married Clemence J. Zielewski, who preceded her in death on March 4, 1991. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Agnes Osmanski, Monica Otolski, Sister M. Angelitta and by her brothers Joseph Nowacki, Steve Nowacki and Henry Nowacki. Florence was a housewife and stay-at-home mom, caring for her four children, Christine (Ed) Lassota of Rolling Meadows, IL, Esther (Jim) Niespodziany of South Bend, Cas (Barb) Zielewski of Flower Mound, TX and Pauline (Cap) Doorn of Niles, MI. Florence took pleasure in her family, particularly her seven grandchildren, Karen Broadway, Jenny Schultz, Laura Sanford, Jeff Doorn, Darcy Doorn, Steve Niespodziany and Christopher Zielewski; two great-grandchildren, Brandon Schultz and Josh Broadway; she is also survived by her sister, Alice (Norman) Makielski. She was a member of St. Adalbert Catholic Church and was active in the Ladies Rosary Sodality there as well as the American Legion Post 50 Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed bingo, coffee, and was proficient as a seamstress and with a crochet needle. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 s. Mayflower Rd, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, February 24, 2011 in St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net

Survivors include children, Christine (Ed) Lassota of Rolling Meadows, IL, Esther (Jim) Niespodziany of South Bend, Cas (Barb) Zielewski of Flower Mound, TX, and Pauline (Cap) Doorn of Niles; and her sister, Alice (Norman) Makielski. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today in St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Adalbert Catholic Church.
