SOUTH BEND - Lois M. Kubiak, loving mother and grandmother, 84, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away Saturday, July 7, 2012. Lois was born January 3, 1928, in Thiebs, Illinois, to George and Dora (Guess) Hurley, and had lived in South Bend since she was a year-and-a-half old. She retired in 1990 from the South Bend Drug Company after 34 years of service. On July 12, 1947, Lois married Eugene F. Kubiak, who preceded her in death on February 3, 1990. Surviving are her daughters, Barbara (Craig) Mast of Galien, Michigan, Kathleen (Gary) Johnson of South Bend, Indiana, and Brenda (Roger) Shull of South Bend, Indiana; six grandchildren, Peter E. Macri, Nicole Marie Lawson, Carrie A. Lawson, Kenneth Willard, Melissa (Christopher) Proud & Amy Willard; and 11 great-grandchildren. A brother, Robert Hurley, and stepsister, Cora, both preceded her in death. Lois was a member of St. Adalbert Catholic Church, and bowled at the PNA. She was a diehard Notre Dame and White Sox fan, and was very patriotic. Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. today, July 11, 2012, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana, where a Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 12, 2012, in St. Adalbert Catholic Church, South Bend, with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
