Kenneth Fred Voogd

Kenneth Fred Voogd age 85 passed away on after a lengthy illness. He had resided at Shamrock Gardens Assisted Living for the last 2 years. Born on February 8, 1921 to Fred and Neva (Stockdale) Voogd in Aplington, Iowa. Kenneth married his high school sweetheart Edith Cuvelier on April 24, 1939 in the Little Brown Church at Grinnel, Iowa. She preceded him in death in 1999 after 60 years of marriage. They moved to Washington DC where he worked for the Veterans Administration until 1947. In the fall of 1947 they moved to South Bend, Indiana, where they raised their family of 5 children. Kenneth worked at Studebaker Corp as a Computer Programmer from 1947 until the plant closed. He then worked for the South Bend School City until he retired in 1982. Most important was his family, he loved having the grandchildren around him. In his younger years he loved playing softball and basketball. When he no longer played these sports he enjoyed attending or watching them on TV. He was an avid bowler for many years. After retiring he filled his time with reading, Stamp Collecting and his Coin Collection, while taking care of his ailing wife. Surviving are 2 daughters, Kay Perry (Donald) of Niles, MI and Candace Gonzales (Leonard) of LaPorte, IN, 2 sons, Terrence (Carolyn) of Hartford, MI, and Robert (Luana) of South Bend. 17 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 9 step grandchildren. Also an Aunt, Lena Voogd of Ackley, IA 2 sisters in law, Mildred Van Eman of Thousand Oaks, CA and Doris Cuvelier of Aplington, IA as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death besides his parents and his wife are a daughter Patricia F. Lindeman, an infant son Philip Allen and his brother Richard C. Voogd. Services will be at held at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN on Thursday, September 28, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. There will be visitation on Wednesday from 4 until 8 p.m. Any donations may be made to the Southern Care Hospice, National City Bank Building, 310 W. McKinley, Ste. 340, Mishawaka, IN 46545 or The Alzheimer Association.
