Anthony Vincent DeVito, 98 and Patricia Elizabeth Barrett DeVito, 98 passed away peacefully in their home on Wednesday, December 15th and Thursday, December 16th, respectively. Anthony was born September 26, 1923 in Elkhart to the late Michele and Sanita (Lembo) DeVito. Patricia was born June 7, 1923 in Elkhart to the late Rollo and Maude (Kern) Love. Tony and Pat, as they were known, fell in love and were married on January 28, 1950. They were preceded in death by Tony's sister, Josephine Douthitt, Pat's sister, Romaine Love, Pat's daughter, Judith Thompson, and Tony and Pat's son, Anthony Vincent DeVito II. Their memory is celebrated by their children, Sue (Ron) Chris and Michael (Heidi) DeVito, 4 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren; brother Vincent DeVito and sister Lucy Wilson. Tony and Pat both graduated from Elkhart High School. After graduation, Tony served during World War II in the Army. Following his service, he went on to successfully run his cement construction company until he retired. He was known in the community for his dedication to his work and family. After retirement he enjoyed breakfasts with his friends at the local restaurant in Edwardsburg. Pat went on to earn two Master's Degrees, the first in English Literature and the second in Library Sciences. While working at the Mishawaka Library, she started and led the "lend lease" program between Indiana Libraries. She was known for her passion for knowledge, cooking, and dotting on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After retirement, she loved spending time with Tony, friends and family. There will be a joint viewing on Wednesday, December 22nd from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, 26863 West Main Street, Edwardsburg, MI 49112, Their entombment at Rice Cemetery in Elkhart, Indiana will be at a later date for the immediate family. Arrangements are by the Mayhew Funeral Home, Edwardsburg.
