South Bend Daily Times, Mon., Dec. 7, 1896, p. 4:
"Steve Hyski, a Polish boy, aged 11 years, while skating on the pond at Beck's ice house Saturday afternoon, ventured toward the center, where the ice was thin, and went through. Before help could reach him, the boy sank and drowned. His parents reside at 1011 West Division street." [Address of George Hyska in the 1896 South Bend city directory.]
