SOUTH BEND - Beatrice Elizabeth Miller (Zalas), 90, of South Bend, Indiana passed away on Tuesday October 4, 2016 in her home. She was born on January 18, 1926 in South Bend to the late Martin and Catherine (Kajzer) Zalas. Beatrice was married to James E. Miller, who preceded in her death. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Rita D. (Thomas) Gerencher; one brother Richard Zalas; and one grandson Jeremy J. Adams. Beatrice is survived by her daughter Leona (Robert) Adams of South Bend; two sons, Anthony J. (Anne) Miller of Tucson, AZ, and Michael J. (Kris) Miller of Jacksonville, Florida; three grandchildren Amy (Doug) Martin, Marie (William) Kelly, Mallory (Arielle) Miller; four great-grandchildren Annabell Mendez Adams, Sean and Thomas Kelly, and Kasie Miller. Beatrice was a 1944 graduate of South Bend Catholic High School and a 1947 graduate of the St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing. On January 7, 2001 she was presented with the Polish Falcon's of America Golden Legion of Honor Cross from Nest 80 Z.B Falcons. She was extremely proud of this honor. Beatrice was also a member of the PNA Jr. Drum and Bugle Corps from 1941 to 1991. She retired from the Visiting Nurses Association where she was a caregiver. Beatrice loved spending time with her family and friends, playing golf, watching the Indianapolis Colts, and playing cards. A Memorial Service will be held in the chapel of St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice.
