John L. GeorgeJohn L. George, age 90, of Wakarusa, Indiana, formerly of Edwardsburg, Michigan, passed away at Miller''s Merry Manor in Wakarusa on Friday, March 12, 2010. John was born November 20, 1919 to the late JP and Martha (Cadger) George in Strongstown, Pennsylvania. On October 8, 1970, John married Edith Devos. They would have celebrated their 40th anniversary this year. Edith survives, along with his children, Daniel (Suzanne) George of Elkhart, Linda (Jim) O''Konski, and Donna (Albert) Watchorn, both of Edwardsburg, MI, and Jo Ann (Ron) Gabbard of Cassopolis, MI. Also surviving are 2 step children, James (Theresa) Devos of Angola, IN, and Debra (Steve) Roth of Syracuse, IN. John is also survived by 20 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held Monday, March 15, 2010 from 4-8 pm at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, and interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. John was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during WWII from 1943-1945 before being honorably discharged. He then moved to the South Bend area in 1948 and worked as a machinist for Bendix Aviation before his retirement in July of 1979. His memberships included the American Legion Post 365 in Edwardsburg, and the Hope United Methodist Church of Edwardsburg. In his spare time, John enjoyed working as a craftsman, building many things, including birdhouses, and loved his dogs. In his memory, contributions may be made to the Hope United Methodist Church Building Fund.
