SOUTH BEND - Peter C. Slater, 89, passed away at 2:30 am Monday, August 17, 2015 in West Bend Nursing Home. Peter was born on January 3, 1926 in South Bend to Peter and Anna (Vukovits) Slaterits. He was a World War II Navy veteran and a member of the Chain-O-Lakes Conservation Club and Bowlers Country Club. Pete retired from Bendix after 30 years of service. On May 15, 1948 in South Bend he married the former Gloria Parker who survives along with a daughter, Judy Ann Kovacs of South Bend, son, Dennis (Laurie) Slater of South Bend, grandson, Kyle Slater, two step-grandchildren, Matthew Sobieski and Anna Sobieski and two twin great-granddaughters, Kelsea and Kaiya. Peter was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Jane Stockberger and three brothers, Fred Slater, Lawrence Slater, and Frank Slater. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Thursday, August 20, 2015 in St. John the Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 Wednesday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue where a Rosary will be recited at 4:00 pm.
