South Bend Indiana - Edward R. Beczkiewicz passed away on August 13, 2021 at the age 97, with his two sons by his side. He was born on June 6, 1924 to the late Casimir and Bella Beczkiewicz. Ed graduated from South Bend Catholic High in 1043 where he was a standout football and basketball player. After graduating, Ed enlisted in the US Navy on 1943 where he served in the Pacific during WWII. He was honorably discharged in 1946. On June 14, 1947 Ed married Mary Jane Woodka who passed away in 2003. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Carol and Florence. Ed is survived by his sons, Robert and Lynn "Lenny" both of South Bend; any seven nephews. Ed worked different jobs before becoming an industrial commercial insulator, and retired in 1986. He was a parishioner of St. Patrick Catholic Church. Ed loved sports especially baseball. He managed three years at Matthys Little League where he won three leagues' titles and one city championship, including winning 37 consecutive league games. Ed then went on to manage at Belleville Babe Ruth where he won 3 league titles and 1 city title. He also managed the 1965 All Star Team which won the Indiana State Championship and were runner ups in the Ohio Valley Regional. Ed was an avid Boston Red Sox Fan and was overjoyed when he won 4 World Series in the past 2 decades. Ed also followed Notre Dame Football, Hockey, and Women's Basketball. He was very fond of animals especially dogs, Ed had 6 dogs in his adult life, Mayor, Tammy, Bo, Sheba, Luka, and Reba. He was also an avid reader of thrillers. There will be no visitation or services for Ed. Burial will take place a St. Joseph Cemetery. ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. is assisting the family.
