SOUTH BEND - Joan M. Simmons, 83, of Palatine, Illinois, formerly of South Bend, Indiana, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2015. She was born on October 28, 1931 in South Bend to William and Anna (Kowalski) Tobolski. On January 1, 1951, in Holy Cross Church, she married Keith E. Simmons, who survives. Also surviving are her two sons, Mark K. (Margaret) Simmons of Troy, Maine and Craig A. (Anne Francis) Simmons of Lake Forest Park, Washington; four granddaughters, Kristin (Donovan) Davis, Emily Simmons, Sarah Simmons, and Rachel Simmons; three great-grandchildren, Dylan, Emma, and Alivia Davis; and her son-in-law, Kenneth Horan of Independence, Kentucky. Joan was preceded in death by her daughter, Gayle L. Horan; and by her ten siblings. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 29, 2015 in Holy Cross Church. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. A visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Monday in the church. Kaniewski Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
