[N31422] Daniel E. Spink
May 30, 1947 ~ February 12, 2022 (age 74)

Daniel E. Spink, 74, passed away on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, IN. He was the fourth child of nine born in South Bend, IN, to William E. and Rose (Ludvik) Spink, both of whom preceded him in death. In 1965, Dan graduated from John Adams High School in South Bend and enlisted in the United States Air Force. After basic training in Illinois, he went to Vietnam, where he served his country honorably. Dan was trained as a mechanic on the large trucks, and he made mechanics his life work. On May 4, 1968, while at home on leave, he married his high school sweetheart, Paula Kay Spurgeon. The two of them moved to Aurora, Colorado, while Dan was stationed at Lowry AFB. To this marriage, came one son, Michael E. Spink. “Danny” enjoyed being outside. He loved pulling the family RV and inflating his boat to putt-putt around the lake. He was great at cooking chicken, brats, hotdogs and hamburgers on the grill. He was known to get lost often, even while using his GPS. Danny was a lot of fun when playing board games, and when anyone was in need of help, he was right there to lend a hand. He loved spending time with his black Labrador, “little” Lucy, who went almost everywhere with him. Publisher’s Clearinghouse and Amazon will miss Danny, almost as much as his family will.Dan is survived by his loving wife, Paula Spink; son, Michael Spink of Elkhart, IN; two grandchildren, Griffin Spink and Hope (Peyton) Nichols; four sisters, Sally (Alan) Tackett of Zebulon, NC; Bonnie (Charles) Sinlock of Ellicott City, MD; Cindy Horning, Raleigh, NC and Becky Jessee of Clayton, NC; two brothers, William P. Spink of Sumter, SC, and Thomas (Sue) Spink of Granger, IN; and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Pamela R. Bliley and Patricia M. Spurgeon, both of South Bend, IN; as well as a very special friend, Rosemary Lindahl of South Bend. In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his sisters, Sandy E. Spink and Michele Dillman. A memorial service for Dan will be held at 6:30pm on Friday, February 18, 2022 at Palmer Funeral Home-Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN. Chaplain Joe Emmerth will officiate. Friends may visit with the family from 6:00-6:30pm on Friday at the funeral home prior to the service. Contributions in memory of Dan may be donated to the Humane Society of St. Joseph County, 2506 Grape Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545; or Pet Refuge, 4626 S. Burnett Drive, South Bend, IN 46614.
