Helen A. Basker, 99, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, February 14, 2021 at Acres of Indiana in New Carlisle, IN. She was born on June 28, 1921 to the late Orville and Helen (McGowen) Bunch in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong resident. Along with her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank S. Basker; a daughter, Jennifer Basker; a son, Gregory Basker; and two brothers, Gilbert and Howard Bunch. Helen graduated in 1939 from Central High School in South Bend. She was infamously known as the “Elevator Lady” who worked as an Elevator Operator, for many years, in the old First Source Bank Building in South Bend. On July 17, 1944, as Helen A. Bunch, she married Frank S. Basker in South Bend, IN. He passed away on March 5, 1997. Helen is survived by two daughters, Beverly (John) Dorton of New Jersey; Pamela Basker of Columbus, OH; three sons, Douglas (Suzann) Basker of South Bend, IN; Mark Basker of Osceola, IN; Jeffrey (Colleen) Basker of Charlotte, NC; daughter-in-law, Marlene Basker of Wilmington, NC; nine grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. Helen was a member of St. Anthony de Padua Parish in South Bend. She was a warm and loving mother and grandmother who was very proud of her family. Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, Private Funeral Services will take place with burial to follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, IN.
