MISHAWAKA - Eugene E. Henke, 83, a lifelong resident of Mishawaka, passed away at 12:30 a.m. Friday, January 1, 2016 at Golden Living Center-Fountainview, Mishawaka. He was born February 28, 1932 in Mishawaka, a son of Henry R. & Ellen Marie (Neddo) Henke. On June 14, 1957 in Mishawaka, he was united in marriage to Barbara Ann Parks. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-eight years, Barbara, along with a daughter, Mary Catherine (Bryan) Staffin of Buchanan, MI; a son, Michael (Deborah) Henke of Carol Stream, IL; four grandchildren, Matthew, Nicholas, & Mitchell Henke, and Michaela Staffin; his brother, Warren E. (Gloria) Henke of Mishawaka, IN; and his sister-in-law, Verna Henke of Goshen, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Ellen Mussche, and his brother, Robert Henke. Mr. Henke retired as a Forklift Operator with the Uniroyal Corp. He graduated from Mishawaka High School, and proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mishawaka. He loved watching the Chicago Cubs, and football, especially the Indianapolis Colts, and Green Bay Packers. He enjoyed hunting and loved fishing for walleye and perch. More than anything, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and the times they would go fishing with him. Memorial services for Mr. Henke will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 5, at the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park Chapel, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, where the family will receive friends from noon until service time. Following cremation, he will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.
