SOUTH BEND - Eugene “Gene” R. Jagla, 86, of South Bend, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 in his home surrounded by his family. He was born on July 2, 1930 in South Bend to the late Joseph and Stella (Cyman) Jagla. Along with his parents, Eugene was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Minsky and Irene Stahl; and two brothers, Edward and Joseph Jagla. On October 15, 1960, Eugene married Barbara J. Kominkiewicz, who survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Cheryl (Jeff) Brown of Zionsville, IN and Lisa (Mark) Middleton of Liberty Township, OH; four grandchildren, Nicholas and Madeline Brown and Claire and Rose Middleton; one sister, Patricia (Raymond) Demski of South Bend, IN; and one brother, Ben (Marlene) Jagla of South Bend, IN. Visitation will be on Thursday, December 29, 2016 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr., South Bend, IN, where a rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 30, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in Christ the King Catholic Church. Burial will take place at a later date in St. Joseph Cemetery. Eugene retired in 1992 from the United States Postal Service. He was a graduate of South Bend Central High School and an Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, PNA #83, Michiana Turners, the St. Joe Young Men's Society and the American Legion Post #357. Eugene was also an usher at the University of Notre Dame for 55 years. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Eugene's honor to Fellowship of Catholic University Students (in which his grandson Nicholas is a missionary), the Center for Hospice Care or Christ the King Catholic Church.
