Alice Joan Rahn, 92, of South Bend, passed away Monday, September 21, 2020 at her residence. She was born April 12, 1928 in Goshen, to the late Ray T. and Alice D. (Balyeat) Ettline. On March 5, 1946, Alice married Verne W. Rahn; he preceded her in death on June 25, 2009. At the age of 74, Joan received her G.E.D. Joan lived in Englewood, Florida, for twenty-nine years. She was active in her church and accepted the Lord as her Savior. She enjoyed volunteering at her church helping out wherever she was needed. She was an active member in cub scouts as a den mother when her kids were younger. She also was the past worthy matron for the Eastern Star Lowa chapter; loved bowling, in fact she was still bowling up to her young age of 91; she also loved playing euchre and playing golf. Surviving are her six children, Dorothy New of Edwardsburg, Michigan, Michael (Sharon) Rahn of Battlecreek, Michigan, Verne (Beth) Rahn of Muncie, Indiana, Cathy (Ben) Endres of South Bend, David Rahn of Edwardsburg, Patrick (Patricia) Rahn of Sycamore, Illinois. Also surviving are eighteen grandchildren, thirty-three great grandchildren and ten great-great grandchildren. Joan loved her children and grandchildren and always looked forward to seeing them. Joan was preceded in death by her husband, parents, son in law, Ron, a grandson, two great grandsons, and a sister, June Lantz. A Celebration Life Service will take place at 11:00AM Saturday, October 3, 2020 at the Community Baptist Church, 5715 Miami Street, South Bend, with Pastor Joe Fant officiating. Graveside services will be at 2:30PM the same day at Prairie Street Cemetery in Elkhart. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Community Baptist Church. The family would like to thank Heather and Jessica at Elara Caring and also Sara her social worker, for the tenderness and care they gave to their mother. Palmer Funeral Home - Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend, is assisting the family with arrangements.
