Passed away on August 15, 2006 at University Hospital of Cleveland after a courageous battle against cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family. Barbara was born on February 28, 1931 in Niles, MI, the daughter of Francesco and Catherine (Mazzotta) Frucci. She was an active member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church and was a volunteer for Ministry with Community. Barbara enjoyed playing golf and watching Notre Dame football, Detroit Tigers baseball, and Detroit Pistons basketball. Barbara married John F. Chmiel on November 23, 1957, who survives. Also surviving are three sons and one daughter, John (Heidi) Chmiel of Battle Creek, MI, James (Jennifer) Chmiel of Cleveland, OH, David (Shelley) Chmiel of Pittsburg, PA, and Catherine Street of Portage; 8 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren; a brother, Antonie (Polly) Frucci of Niles, MI; two sisters, Anna Franz of Edwardsburg, MI and Carmella (Daniel) Konkey of Niles, MI; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 20, 2006 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at PARCHMENT-REDMOND Funeral Home, 2300 East G. Ave. where a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 21, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 1628 East G. Ave., Parchment, MI. Fr. James O'Leary, Celebrant. Interment will be in Mr. Olivet Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation-Rainbow Chapter, Ministry with Community or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
