Dorothy W Kohzer
January 3, 1924 - March 29, 2022
Dorothy W. Behnke, 98, of Mishawaka, IN., passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2022. Dorothy was born on January 3, 1924 in Germany to John and Frida (Wischniewski) Kohzer. As Dorothy W. Kohzer she married John David Behnke. John preceded her in death in 1994. Dorothy was also preceded in death by her parents and two grandchildren, Michelle Behnke and Justin Behnke. She is survived by three daughters, Karen Turner, Nancy Behnke-Strasser, and Rebecca Behnke-Clark, all of Mishawaka; one son, David Behnke of Berrien Springs, MI; ten grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and thirteen great great grandchildren.Dorothy was a fashion consultant for “Queen’s Way to Fashion” for many years and she was aptly suited for that job. She was an independent woman who was ahead of her time. After Queen’s Way she went to work for the South Bend Central Blood Bank, taking blood pressures and getting to know many people throughout the area. Also she became quite instrumental in persuading many to become pheresis donors. Upon retiring to Tanglewood Trace at 89 years she organized Notre Dame Football pools and played cards and dominos, but never was a fan of bingo. She pursued her interests in politics and was proud to vote for Hillary Clinton. She followed local news and preferred Wendy Williams to METV. Her passion was coloring. She had quite a few coloring books that she filled as well as several she had framed to give as gifts and to grace her walls. Thus she followed her father’s artistic footsteps. She will be sorely missed by not only her family but many friends, most especially Cynthia Clendenin, a friend of many years. Services for Dorothy will take place on Saturday, April 2, at 2:00 p.m. at the Palmer Funeral Home-Bubb Chapel, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka with visitation starting at 12:00 p.m. til service time. Pastor Dorothy Jones will officiate the services.Online condolences can be made at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
