John James Bencsics

SOUTH BEND - John Bencsics, age 90, of South Bend, passed away peacefully in his home Saturday evening. John was a commercial artist and musician. He graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago. John worked for several agencies in the course of his career and was a partner in the former Welsh, Bencsics, Bolles Advertising Agency. John was born on June 14, 1923 in South Bend to the late John and Helen (Nemes) Bencsics and lived in this area all of his life. He served his country during World War II and fought at the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, he returned home and connected with his childhood neighbor and soon to be wife. On May 22, 1948 in South Bend he married Evelyn E. Arpasi who survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Ellen (Craig) Heitger of South Bend, a son, John (Mary Coursey) Bencsics of Goshen, IN; four grandchildren, Emily Cahill, Ian (Trisha) Bencsics, Austin Bencsics and Teagan Bencsics, one great-grandson, Liam; and three sisters, Helen McClain of Florida, Maryann Zanka and Lily Szymanski both of South Bend. John loved to paint and many of his water colors are distributed throughout Michiana. He played classical guitar and harmonica. He loved to golf, fish and spending time with his entire family and wife, Evelyn, whom he adored. Palmer Funeral Homes - Hickey Chapel are helping the family with arrangements.
