Virginia Rose Maciulski
May 31, 1921 - Oct. 25, 2013
SOUTH BEND - Virginia Rose Maciulski passed away due to natural causes on Friday, October 25, 2013, at Morning Crest Memory Center. She was born to Attilio and Mary Botti on May 31, 1921, in the Bronx, New York City, New York. Her family moved to Long Island, New York, when she was a young girl. She graduated from Great Neck High School, where she earned the honor of being Valedictorian of her class in 1940. She attended the Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School and worked a variety of secretarial positions, but she enjoyed being a nurse's aide during WW II the most. She met a handsome young soldier who stole her heart named Chester Michael Maciulski at the Service Men's Club in Great Neck, Long Island, New York. He was serving in the US Army. Virginia and Chet were married at St. Aloysius Church in Great Neck on June 23, 1946. They moved to South Bend, where she became active in the local garden clubs and Little Flower Catholic Church. She walked, rode her bike or took the city bus to go where she needed to go. Her most cherished role in life was being a loving and devoted mother to her two sons, Gregory (Leda) of Ventura, CA, and Michael (Janet) of South Bend, IN. She was a den mother for the Boy Scouts of America and taught Sunday School classes at Little Flower Church as her boys were growing up. Being a grandmother to Brent, Maclane, Kyle and Korin was a highlight in her life. They brought each other much happiness as she taught them about life as only a little Italian lady from New York could. She was a wonderful storyteller and the many idioms that she shared will always be part of us. Her surviving sibling, Rose Dannenfeltser from Long Island, New York, was very special to her. Her sister-in-law. Louise Buuck of Ossian, IN, also brought many smiles and laughter into her life. Virginia has many nieces and nephews who she cared for deeply, and she always looked forward to the beautiful cards, letters and pictures from her niece, Rosemary Ullrick. She also enjoyed the postcards from around the world that her nephew Robert Dewey sent her regularly. She was preceded in death by her three wonderful brothers whom she missed very much, George (Billie) Botti and identical twins, John (Betty) Botti and Charlie Botti. The family would like to thank the staff at Morning Crest Memory Center and Southern Care Hospice for the loving care they showed Mrs. Virginia these last few years. This unique lady will be remembered for the joy she shared throughout her life and will be deeply missed. Virginia's life will be celebrated on Saturday, November 2, 2013, in Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend. Friends may visit from 10:00 - 11:00 am, and the funeral service will begin at 11:00 am. A dinner for family and friends will follow at the Potawatomi Conservatories. Memorial contributions may be donated to Potawatomi Conservatories, 2105 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend, IN 46615. Online condolences may be left for the Maciulski family at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
