Joseph and Judith met in the service during WWII while Joseph was stationed in Sydney, Australia. Joseph was a sailor in the U.S. Navy, and Judith was a Signaler in the Women's Army Corps of the Australian Army.

Joseph legally changed his surname to CONWAY in 1946.

Joseph and Judith resided in the Chicago area from about 1950 to 1966, followed by a move to Southern Indiana. In 1974 they relocated to Memphis, Tennessee.
Joseph died at Baptist Hospital in Memphis on July 23, 1991 at age 69. He had spent his career working in the industrial abrasives industry and held management positions at Studebaker, Carborundum, 3M Corporation, Batesville Casket Company, and Stan Sax Corporation.

Joseph's wife of 46 years, Judith, died at home on March 27, 2006 in Sacramento CA at age 82. She was buried in Memorial Park Cemetery, Memphis TN. She had been a homemaker until around age 55, then began a successful 15-year career in the real estate industry in Memphis. She then retired and moved to Sacramento, CA.
