SOUTH BEND - Dr. Laura Jean Pankow, 63, passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2017, at Wellbrooke of South Bend. Laura was born on May 23, 1954, in South Bend, to the now late James Henry and Margaret (Davis) Pankow. She was the oldest of six children. Surviving are her brothers, Scott (Rebecca) Pankow of Indianapolis, Steve (Lisa) Pankow of Indianapolis, Mark Pankow of New Jersey, John Pankow of South Bend, and Charlie Pankow of South Bend. Laura earned her undergraduate Degree in Biology from Hanover College, received her Optometrist Degree from IU Bloomington; her PhD in psychological social work from University of Georgia; was a self-employed Optometrist; she owned a low vison practice in South Bend. She worked at the University of Chicago for nine years; a lifelong member of the Cathedral of St. James and an active member of P.E.O. Laura had also published numerous articles in Optometrist Journals. Funeral services will be on Friday, October 6, at 6 p.m., with visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Cathedral of St. James, 117 N. Lafayette Blvd., South Bend. The Very Rev. Brian Grantz will officiate. Hahn Funeral Home, Mishawaka, has been entrusted with handling the final arrangements.
