SOUTH BEND - Lillian A. Katona, 85, formerly of East Donald Street, South Bend, Ind., died on Tuesday, March 24, in her home. She had most recently resided with her niece, Sharyl (Daniel) Dippel, on Miami Meadows Court in South Bend. On Aug. 7, 1935, as Lillian A. Zwierzynski, she married Stephen J. Katona in South Bend. He died on Feb. 15, 1990. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Helen (Scozinski) Zwierzynski; and by two brothers, Sylvester Zwierzynski on Sept. 25, 1996, and Edward Zwierzynski on Jan. 30, 1996. She is survived by six nieces, Sharyl (Daniel) Dippel of South Bend, Patricia (Ron) Malecki of Milwaukee, Wis., Sandra (Ray) Norris of McKinney, Texas, Suann (Ken) Brenda of Winnetka, Ill., Betty (Stanley) Turek of South Bend and Margie Pietrzak of South Bend; two nephews, Carl (Joan) Zwierzynski of South Bend and Joseph Katona, II, of Florida; several great-nieces and nephews; and by several great-great-nieces and nephews. Mrs. Katona was a member of St. Matthew Cathedral and its Rosary Society. She also belonged to Polish Women's Alliance of America, Group #65. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday in St. Matthew Cathedral, with the Most Reverend Joseph Crowley officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Polish Roman Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a parish Rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthew Cathedral School, 1015 E. Dayton, South Bend, IN 46613.
