January 9, 1941 ~ June 30, 2021 (age 80)

Harold C. “Chuck” Popke, 80, of Elkhart, passed away on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, IN. He was born on January 9, 1941, in Goshen to the late Harold C. and Opal L. (Smeltzer) Popke. Chuck is survived by his loving companion and other half of almost 40 years Shirley Herald; daughters, Kim (Don) Storms, Paige Whitman, Shirley’s children Gina (David Dovell) Herald and son, Mitch (Anelia Ninova) Herald; grandchildren, Brande Storms, Kelsey Crandal, Carly (Rod Lopez) Storms, Clinton Whitman, Hunter Whitman, Graeme Herald; five great grandchildren; sister, Hettie (Tom) Lehman; and brother-in-law, Mike McKinsey. He is preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Olivia Storms; and sisters, Sue Ann McKinsey and Nedra A. (Dale) Stone.
Visitation will take place on Friday, July 9, 2021, from 11 a.m. to noon at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. in Elkhart with a service to be held at noon with Todd Lehman, Chuck’s nephew, to officiate. Burial at Violett Cemetery in Goshen will immediately follow the services. Memorial donations may go to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 11454 Alexandria, VA 22312 or the Humane Society of Elkhart County, 54687 County Road 19, Bristol, IN 46507. Chuck was a precision tool & die maker who worked at Elkhart Machine and Tool for 24 years and then Warren Manufacturing in Michigan. He enjoyed helping others, especially his neighbors. In his spare time, he loved fishing, walking on the beach, tinkering on cars, and cheering on Notre Dame. Chuck will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
