[N32724] Paul Chmiel
Jan,1951 - July 18, 2022

Paul Chmiel, 71, passed away on Monday evening, July 18, 2022, at his residence in Mishawaka, IN. He was born in South Bend, IN, to Alex and Ruby (McGee) Chmiel, both of whom preceded him in death. Paul is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Mary Chmiel; sister, Angela Chmiel of Mishawaka; brother, Jesse (Elizabeth) Chmiel of Goshen; two sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and 45 nieces/nephews and their children. Paul enjoyed two successful careers using his well-known technical and mechanical skills. He was featured in the book, American Racer, when he designed and built motorcycle race equipment for several major companies and racers in the 1970s and 1980s. He later launched his own business, Paul Chmiel Racing, and successfully continued this line of work. This career required a lot of travel, and Paul was often on the road for six to nine months of the year. When he met Mary, he decided to “stay home” and work for Jordan Toyota. Through Toyota education, Paul achieved the highest level of certification with Toyota-Master Diagnostic Technician-enabling him to diagnose and service hybrid technology. Through Jordan Toyota, Paul volunteered to train many local firefighters in accident rescue involving hybrid cars. He worked for Jordan for 30 years, retiring in December 2016. Paul and Mary were longtime members of the Lutheran Church, ELCA. They enjoyed traveling the world together, nature related activities, and ballroom dancing during their 37 happy years together. The family invites you to enjoy the Life Reflections video of Paul as well as leave remembrances of your shared time with Paul on the Palmer Funeral Homes website: www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
