GRANGER - Alan Charles Matthews, 68, passed away at 1:00am, Sunday at St. Mary's Hospital near his home in Decatur, IL. Alan was born to the late Charles Rene and Harriet (Szymczak) Matthews on October 17, 1947. On June 7, 1969 in Blessed Sacrament Parish, Ft. Mitchell, KY he married the love of his life Lois Ann Woerman. They lived most of their adult lives in Granger, only moving last December to be near family. They were blessed with two children: Theresa Marie (Paul) Floyd and their daughter Natalie, age 9, all of Missoula, MT; a son Jeff Alan (Paula) Matthews and their three boys: 12 yr old twins Alexander and Elijah and 8 yr old Zachariah, all of Maroa, IL. Also surviving him is his brother James (Charlotte) Matthews and several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and a great-great niece and nephew all of South Bend, IN area. Alan was a 1965 graduate of Washington High School, he served in the United States Marine Corps, received a BS and MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University. He was a very active member of St. Pius X Parish where he was a choir member and played guitar at the 12:00 mass when it was in the basement of the rectory and later in the choir loft of the old church. He also taught CCD to the 7th graders. He loved music and collected a vast amount of records and CDs. He retired from Indiana Bell later Ameritech as a Telephone Repairman. After he retired from there he was an Electrical Department Supervisor at Mishawaka Utilities. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday March 29th at 10:30am, Msgr. William Schooler, Pastor, officiating, burial and USMC Military Honors will follow at the grave in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Visitation will be from 4-7pm Monday at the McGann Hay Funerals. Published in South Bend Tribune from Mar. 26 to Mar. 28, 2016
