John J. Braniff
June 6, 1933 - November 3, 2021
John Joseph Braniff, 88 years old, passed to his rest on November 3, 2021, at Darden House of South Bend from an illness. He was born on June 6, 1933, in South Bend, the son of Joseph and Marie (Erhardt) Braniff, who preceded him in death, along with his sister Helen Herreman and brothers Willard and Gerald. He was a lifelong resident of Michiana. John was married on June 7, 1952 in Niles to Marjorie Ann Spenner, who survives along with their three children, Willard (Kathleen) Braniff of Mishawaka, Kathie (Mark Breaux) McGrath of Elkhart and Gary (Deborah) Braniff of Niles. He was also the proud and loving grandfather of 12 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and two great-great- grandchildren. John leaves behind a legacy of service through his membership in the Edwardsburg Lion's Club for 65 years, where he held every office at one time or another. He was a lifelong member of Our Lady of the Lake, where he served as Usher, Lector and Lay Minister. He also served a number of years as an Ontwa Township Trustee. He retired from Standard Oil/Amoco in 1993, after a long career driving a fuel tanker truck marked by multiple safety awards. Of course any one who knew John was aware of his passion for the University of Notre Dame, especially his love of the football team, for which he served an incredible forty one years as an usher at the stadium, where a number of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren have followed him in this service. Family and friends may gather on Friday, November 12, 2021, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 24832 US 12- East, Edwardsburg, for visitation. The Memorial Mass of Christian Service will be Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the church, where visitation will be for one hour before the service. Cremation inurnment will follow the Mass in Edwardsburg Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, Edwardsburg.
