John A. Strantz, 77, of Cardinal Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of South Albert Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away on Friday, Sept. 15, 2000, in the nursing home. Mr. Strantz was born on Feb. 6, 1923, in South Bend, to the late Stephen and Barbara (Berfanger) Strantz. He retired in 1985 from Allied Stamping and was previously employed by the Studebaker Corporation. Mr. Strantz was a member of St. Patrick Church and the German Club.

On May 19, 1951, in South Bend, John married Bernadine (Swiadecki) Hodosi, who survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Kathleen (David) Poe of Niles, Mich.; a stepdaughter, Sandy Waggoner of South Bend; six grandchildren, Michelle (David) Youngcourt of Indianapolis, Ind., Lisa (Robert) Williams of Granger, Ind., Jonelle Hodosi of Indianapolis, Melissa (Scott) Dieckmann of Richmond, Ky., Jason Hodosi of Colorado, and Laurie Poe of South Bend; a great-grandson, Spencer Youngcourt; two sisters, Anne Strantz & Marge Wieger both of Niles; and by two brothers, Stephen (Ethel) of Phoenix, Ariz., and Edward (Doreen) Strantz of Niles. He was preceded in death by a stepson, John Hodosi in 1979; and by a sister, Frances Wozniak.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, in St. Patrick Catholic Church, with burial to follow at Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 18, in the KANIEWSKI Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr., South Bend, IN, where a parish Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the German Club Building Fund, 1541 Prairie Avenue, South Bend, IN 46613.
