John Putek (May 14, 1916 -- April 12, 2007)

SOUTH BEND -- John Putek, 90, passed away at 1:55 p.m. on Thursday, April 12, in his residence.

John Putek was born on May 14, 1916, in South Bend to the late Louis and Frances (Kurowski) Putek. On October 7, 1944, he married Genevieve H. Harlozinski in St. Adalbert Catholic Church. He was preceded by his wife, Genevieve on January 17, 1998; his four brothers, Frank, Walt, Roman and Harry; five sisters, Anna Dylewski, Mary Petzke, Louise Papoi, Helen Thompson and Irene Wesolek.

John is survived by his sister, Gertrude Szuba of Mishawaka; his caregivers, Ernie and Mary Scott; and many nieces and nephews.

John was a veteran of the United States Army stationed in Panama during World War II, and a member of American Legion Post 357. He was a parishioner of St. Adalbert Catholic Church, worked for Studebaker, and retired from the South Bend Community School Corporation.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 15, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend, where a rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 16, in St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend.
