Eugene VanWanzeele, 93, of Darden Road, South Bend, Ind., died at 10:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 23, in Millers Merry Manor, New Carlisle, Ind. He was born on Aug. 15, 1905, in Aalter, Belgium, and lived in the South Bend area since July 1, 1907. He was a lifetime farmer and a member of the St. Joseph County Farm Bureau. Mr. Van Wanzeele was married on Oct. 29, 1932, in Mishawaka, Ind., to Magdalene DeNeve, who survives. He is also survived by two sons, August (Nancy) VanWanzeele of New Carlisle and Eugene A. VanWanzeele of South Bend; three grandchildren, Mary Ellen (Brett) Smith of North Liberty, Ind., Michael (Penny) VanWanzeele of New Carlisle and Paul (Lori) VanWanzeele of New Carlisle; six great grandchildren, Jason and Christopher Beyer both of South Bend, Katie Smith of North Liberty and by Amanda, David and Scott VanWanzeele all of New Carlisle. Mr. Van Wanzeele was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret and Mary Matthys; and by a brother, Albert VanWanzeele. Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. today in the St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with burial to follow in Highland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Baptist Church Building Fund, 3526 St. John Way, South Bend, IN 46628, or to the Lydick Lions Club.
