CHICAGO - Florentyna M. Janulis was born on February 2, 1920, to Alexander and Alice Mizinski, in Chicago. She was raised in Chicago and Georgetown, IL, and started work at 16 during the war. She worked as a special assistant to the president of Pressed Steel Corp. where she had a tank named after her, "Tiny" the ammunition carrier for the experimental tank, "Big Shot." She was one of the first female real estate brokers in the state of Illinois. She later entered politics, becoming the Supervisor of Assessments for Vermilion County, IL. She enjoyed campaigning very much, read widely, collected dolls, and traveled, making friends from all walks of life. She died as she wanted to at her home on the river on May 13th at the age of 88. She is survived by her sons, Alexander (Margaret) Janulis of Manhattan, KS, and Bronislaus Janulis (Susan R. Visser) of South Bend, IN, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. There will be a visitation at Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street, South Bend, IN, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 20th. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to The South Bend Regional Museum of Art, 120 South St. Joseph Street, South Bend, IN 46601.
