Obituary: Rita T. Urbanski

Rita T. Urbanski, 76, of South Bend, Ind., passed away on Friday, Sept. 3, in Hospice House, South Bend.
She was born on Dec. 12, 1927, in South Bend, to John and Anna (Pociecha) Baranowski. She retired in 1989 from St. Mary's College. On May 29, 1948, in St. Hedwig Church, as Rita T. Baranowski, she married Edward E. Urbanski, who preceded her in death on June 9, 1995. Also preceding her in death was a brother, Thaddeus J. Baranowski; and her great-granddaughter, Gabrielle Urbanski.
Survivors include her daughter, Paula A. Richards of South Bend; five sons, Thomas E. (Laurie) Urbanski of Mishawka, Ind., Mark D. (Mary) Urbanski of South Bend, Gregory P. (Connie) Urbanski of Indianapolis, Ind., Christopher J. (Christine) Urbanski of Indianapolis, Brian D. (Carol) Urbanski of Carmel, Ind.; 15 grandchildren, Matthew, John, Joseph, Julie, Edward, Katie, Drew, Dustin, Megan, Aaron, Anna, Alex, Stephanie, Sarah, Emily; eight great-grandchildren, Paige, Chloe, Carmen, Abby, Nolan, Grace, Jordan, Jacob; her sister, Helen Zielinski of South Bend; and by her brother, Edwin Baranowski of Long Island, N.Y.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 8, in St. Anthony de Padua Church. Cremation will follow with burial at a later date at Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m.
Mrs. Urbanski was a 1945 graduate of South Bend Catholic High School and a member of St. Anthony de Padua Parish. Rita was known as an avid card player. She also loved Notre Dame football and Tailgating. She had a strong will to survive and loved being in the midst of family celebrations.
