William H. Kretz Jr. 88, of South Bend, IN passed away at 2:01 a.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Memorial Hospital. He was born in Okmulgee, OK on March 15, 1926 to the late William H. and Hester Virginia (White) Kretz. He was united in marriage on April 22, 1972 in South Bend, IN to the former Joyce E. Zattau. Mr. Kretz is survived by his wife, Joyce E. Kretz; daughter, Dr. Kathleen (Tom Rysko) Osborn of Grand Rapids, MI; two sons, Stephen (Bonnie) Kretz of Perrysburg, OH and James (Victoria) Kretz of Hummelstown, PA and six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a brother-in-law, Jerry Drake of CO. He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law Brad Osborn, and a sister, Virginia Drake. Mr. Kretz was a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, MO. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during World War II. He retired in 1990 as the Vice President of Harsco, Inc. He previously worked at AM General. After retirement, Mr. Kretz continued to work for four years building buses for Bombardier in Shannon, Ireland. He was a member of Moose Kraus Chapter of Football Hall of Fame and a member of the American Legion Post 270. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend, IN. Friends may visit with the family for one hour prior to services. Burial will take place at a later date. Contributions in memory of William H.
